Famous quotes by Grace Hopper

The inventions of Grace Hopper

Grace Hopper participated in the development of UNIVAC I and designed the first compiler, called A-0 System. She wants to revolutionize programming and supports the idea that computer language must be written in a vocabulary similar to English to make it more accessible. She developed the COBOL language in 1959 at IBM, where she has worked since 1957. She continued her work on the standardization of computer language in the 1970s, creating, in parallel with COBOL, the Fortran. Grace is an external consultant for Digital Equipment, conducting conferences on the beginnings of computer science until she died in 1992. She is the author of many books on computers such as Understanding Computers, published in 1984. In 1986, “Amazing Grace” is decorated with the Defense Distinguished Service Medal the highest existing distinction for non-combatants.

Grace Hopper participated in a famous American program presented by David Letterman in 1986, which made her even more popular with the general public.
