Art Modell, who was born on November 21, 1925, was an American businessman who had a net worth of $500 million in 2016. He was most known for his career as an NFL team owner. He owned the Cleveland Browns from 1961 to 1995, when he sold the franchise to businessman Al Lerner, who renamed it the Cleveland Browns.

Art Modell moved the franchise to Baltimore and renamed it the Ravens in 1996. As a result of this move, there was a large uproar from Cleveland’s fans after many of them felt betrayed by Modell. Modell founded what eventually became Modell’s Sporting Goods Inc., which is now one of the largest retailers and distributors of sporting goods in the United States.

Because of these contributions, Modell received the Sportsman of the Century Award at Bowdoin College in Maine in 1999. In 2004, Modell was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
