The Krusty Krab restaurant, where SpongeBob works, is owned and operated by Krabs. He is comfortable with himself, cunning, and concerned with money’s value and substance. He is more concerned with his wealth than with the needs of his employees. After serving in the navy, he likes sailing, whales, sea shanties, and talking like a pirate.

Sheldon J. Plankton
The Chum Bucket, owned by Sheldon and Karen Plankton, is a failing restaurant located across the street from the Krusty Krab. Because they sell largely inedible chum foods, their business is a commercial failure. Mr. Krabs’ self-proclaimed archenemy is Plankton, a little planktonic copepod. His ultimate objective is to steal Krabs’ secret Krabby Patties recipe, put the Krusty Krab out of business, and rule the oceans, but he never succeeds owing to SpongeBob and/or Krabs’ attempts, his own incompetence and childish temperament, or his own small stature (except, temporarily, in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie).

Sandy Cheeks is a squirrel from Texas who lives in an air-filled glass dome and wears diving gear to breathe underwater (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence, Presley Williams as young Sandy in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run). Water helmets must be worn by any aquatic creatures who enter her habitat. Sandy is a scientist, adventurer, and inventor who works in the field of science. She is a rodeo champion who enjoys a variety of sports, including “sandboarding” and karate. She talks with a Southern drawl and utilizes slang terms and phrases that are common in the South.
Mrs. Puff (voiced by Mary Jo Catlett) is a paranoid pufferfish that teaches SpongeBob at a boating school, an underwater driver’s education center where pupils drive boats like cars. Her school is a lighthouse, and she wears a sailor suit. Mrs. Puff’s most diligent pupil, SpongeBob, knows the answer to every question on her written and oral tests, yet he always panics and crashes upon boarding a ship. When she is terrified or injured, she puffs up into a ball. She is routinely detained by the police as recurring humor, generally for being responsible for SpongeBob’s destruction around Bikini Bottom during his boating test.
“Oh, SpongeBob, why?”
Mr. Krabs’ daughter, Pearl Krabs (voiced by Lori Alan), is a teen sperm whale. She wants to blend in with her fellow fish, but her species’ vast size prevents her from doing so. She will inherit the Krusty Krab from her father when she grows up, although she is still in high school and has yet to work for the family business. Pearl’s favorite pastimes are working at the Bikini Bottom Mall, using her father’s credit card to buy everything fashionable, and listening to pop music.
